Physiology of fibrinolysis

This article describes the different processes leading to the generation of plasmin and the characteristics of the structure, function and role of agents such as plasminogen, plasmin, plasminogen activator, plasminogen activators inhibitors and other inhibitors of proteolytic activity. These substances are not only engaged in fibrinolysis but also play a key role in extracellular matrix metabolism, degradation of matrix constituents and the activation of proenzymes and growth factors.
