This article presents the current knowledge regarding the importance of fibrinolytic disturbances in the pathophysiology of atherosclerosis, non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), deep vein thrombosis (DVT), inflammation, recurrent fetal loss, malignant tumors as well as the involvement of the fibrinolytic system in the processes associated with function and survival of the transplant organ.
