Abstract

The study presents the results of s-IgA level in urine of children with urinary tract infection (uti). 24 children were examined. The level of s-IgA in urine was determined with ELISA method. Control group consisted of urine from 10 children, with s-IgA level in urine 0.69 mg/l. Examined children were divided into 4 groups. Group I was formed of 8 children with uti, normal urinary system and low s-IgA level. Group II consisted of 4 children with uti, normal urinary system and high s-IgA level. Group III was made up of 3 children with uti, and coexistent defect of urinary system. Group IV was formed of 9 children with recurrent urinary tract infections. The level of s-IgA in urine of children from group I and IV was significantly lower when compared to the results obtained in control group. Children with uti and normal urinary system displayed normal or high s-IgA level, probably due to local immune response. High s-IgA level was also observed in children with urinary system defects. As far as children with recurrent uti are concerned, they displayed low level of s-IgA in urine. Therefore, in our opinion low s-IgA level in urine may be the marker of recurrent uti in children with normal urinary system.
