The work presents the results of ultrasonographic examination of 32 formula-fed infants and 32 infants fed with mother's milk. The volume of thymus in breast-fed children was significantly larger than in the case of infants receiving artificial nutrition. This indicates that human milk contains a factor stimulating the development of thymus, an organ which is responsible for child's immune functions.
