The diagnosis of dissecting aneurysm of the ascending aorta should be confirmed by both invasive and non-invasive investigations. A prompt diagnosis is mandatory since the condition requires immediate surgical treatment in a specialized cardiosurgery centre. The authors present a case of a patient in whom the diagnosis of dissecting aneurysm was established on the basis of clinical manifestations and a few available laboratory investigations.
