Questionarial interviews have been carried out among 4030 secondary school adolescents and their parents in Bialystok. The aim was to identify persons most severely affected by selected environmental risk factors of atherosclerosis. The most frequent risk factors in the young population sample include cigarette smoking and improper dietary habits, particularly in boys, and obesity in girls. Certain risk factors tend to increase with age. Additional positive family histories and accummulation of risk factors in the same individuals can be observed. Adequate preventive measures have been considered and supported.
