The severity of an acute rejection of various heart regions after experimental heart transplantation in the rat

Experimental allogeneic heart transplantations were performed in rats using the Ono-Lindsay method. Heart graft tissue fragments were taken from various regions (apex, right and left ventricle, interventricular septum) each day after transplantation during the first postoperative week, and the severity of acute rejection was estimated using the Stanford criteria. Data showed that the highest progression of an acute allograft rejection reaction was in the interventricular septum. The statistically significant differences were observed between the onset and progression of the severity of acute heart graft rejection between the various heart regions.
