Bilateral optic neuritis following oral polio vaccination: an unusual case

Abstract

Background: We presented a case, developed bilateral optic neuritis with decreasing visual acuity after administration of oral polio vaccination (OPV).Case Report: A 7-year-old boy was admitted to our clinic with decreasing visual acuity after 21 days of oralpolio vaccination (OPV). Clinical history, examination, neuroimaging, and further studies described bilateral optic neuritis. He was treated with prednisolone 40 mg/day for a total of 14 days. Visual acuity were turned to normal after four weeks.Conclusions: We concluded that OPV may be a potential cause of bilateral optic neuritis in this patient.
