Abstract
Presented here are two cases of intramedullary lipomas which underwent surgery. A 43-year-old man was admitted to the department with a one and a half-year history of bilateral leg weakness (especially left sided) and urine incontinence. We demonstrated an intramedullar tumor in the thoracic region Th 9-10. The patient underwent a subtotal resection with decompressive laminectomy. The second case presents a 27-year-old woman admitted to the clinic with a three-month history of thoracic pain, progressive limb weakness and arm paresthesia. She underwent decompressive laminectomy and biopsy of the cervico-thoracic tumor T1-3. We obtained neurological recovery and the patient lived 14 years without significant neurological deficits. Following this period she was readmitted to the clinic due to spastic paraparesis and underwent subtotal resection of the tumor. We performed a diagnostic study, including magnetic resonance imaging in both patients and the neurological condition was carefully evaluated before and following surgery.
