Subclinical course of nonspecific Inflammatory Bowel Diseases in children – a diagnostic and therapeutic problem

Med Sci Monit 2003; 9(4): 24-28 :: ID: 428627

Abstract

Nonspecific inflammatory bowel diseases are chronic, characterized by the tendency to periodic exacerbations and remissions. Neither etiology nor pathogenesis of these disorders have been fully elucidated so far. Clinical manifestations and therapeutic effects are vari-able. In many cases, nonspecific, discrete symptoms are believed to appear many months or years before the ultimate diagnosis is estab-lished. In order to prevent distant sequels of nonspecific inflammatory bowel disease, especially disturbances of physical development, the problems of diagnostics and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease in children should be propagated.
