Abstract
Free radical reactions and lipid peroxidation are proven to play an important role in the pathomechanism of the fatty liver by increasing the metabolic disorder in hyperlipidemia. The aim of the present work was to study the possible synergistic effect of silibinin and vitamin E on the deranged immune reactivity and on the lipid peroxidation in experimental hyperlipidemia in a short term experiment. Young male Wistar rats were divided into 5 groups: untreated control animals, hyperlipidemic control animals, a group treated with vitamin E (8.56 mg/kg daily for 9 days), animals treated with silibinin (25 mg/kg daily for 5 days from 4th day) which were kept on a fat rich diet and the doubly treated animals of the 5 group which were fed with a fat rich diet and treated with vitamin E and silibinin.Vitamin E and silibinin, the most commonly used natural antioxidants, can effect both the fatty liver in alimentary hyperlipidemia and immune system. Their interactions in the cytokine production, especially in the IL-1 activity in hyperlipidemia, let us conclude, that their immunostimulatory effect may be most satisfactory in regulation of lipid metabolism. Hence, the combined antioxidant and immonoregulatory effects are most efficient in hyperlipidemia.
